Re: Lawrenceburg
Lawrenceburg, Indiana…….Youth prevailed on Saturday night at Lawrenceburg Speedway as Kokomo, Indiana’s Logan Jarrett led all 30 laps to score a big AMSOIL National Sprint Car upset! The 20-year old survived a trio of late-race cautions after racing out to a huge lead over the first twenty laps, winning by 2.173-seconds in the J&J Trucking – Doak Trucking #29 DRC/Claxton.
“Man…I’ve never felt anything like it. I’ve grown up at sprint car races and watched my dad race and kept getting better and better – it’s just an incredible feeling to win a USAC race. I knew I had so many great guys behind me, with so many wins, it made me pretty nervous to see those yellows. I just thought that race would never end. Joe Devin and Scotty Weir have helped us a lot with getting our car better, and it’s exciting to see the results of that. I’m just beyond excited right now,” Jarrett said. While Jarrett led throughout, the race was a frenzy for second on back. Robert Ballou moved past Kyle Robbins to take second, but Dave Darland was right there to challenge Ballou. Meanwhile, C.J. Leary was on the move from 17th using the far outer reaches of the high banks, finally moving into the top-five on an all-green run with ten laps to go. With a caution at lap 21, Jarrett led Darland, Ballou, Stockon, and Leary, but it took a few attempts to complete more than another lap. With 8 to go, Jarrett took off with the lead, but Ballou pressured Darland to take second. Leary was right behind him, finally diamonding off turn-two to take a full head of steam into the second spot with just four laps left. Leary was visibly closing on Jarrett in the final laps, but ran out of time. The 18-year old Greenfield, Indiana driver matched his best career finish in the Leary Construction Company – Green Tech Lubricants #30 DRC/Claxton Mopar. “Our racing is called ‘ruts and guts’ for a reason and the track delivered tonight. We got the car set up to run up in the thick stuff where nobody else seemed to be running. We got to fifth before we got to some guys who are just smart and put their cars in positions that make it tough to get around them. It was just a ball to run up through there, though. I’m really proud of Logan – we both are out there looking for our first USAC win and running hard. I just would have loved to see a caution at the end to give me a chance,” Leary said. Ballou rounded out the podium in the Blakesley Auto – MPHG Promotions #12 Maxim/Ott. “I’m just really happy for Logan Jarrett and his family. They are a good bunch of people, and it’s cool to see him get his first big win,” Ballou said. Kevin Thomas, Jr. came out on top of a huge battle in the closing laps to finish fourth but failed to report to post-race technical inspection as he left the track, thus being re-positioned to the tail of the field. Darland assumed the fourth spot in the final rundown aboard the Phillips/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports – Trench Shoring #71P DRC/Foxco, while ProSource “Fast Qualifier” Jon Stanbrough came home fifth in the MP Environmental Services – AED Motorsports Products #81 Spike/J&D. Re: Lawrenceburg
Lawrencebug is a very good place to start the racing season out, as it is very fast, which also means the motors are in full scream and it's also very pleasing on the eyes. And I'm not just talking about what's walkin' around. It's also a marvel of modern landscaping. So your initiation into the racing season starts with a serious jolt.
As far as the racing tonight, a couple of the heats were so-so, one was real good and one was pretty good, also. Come feature time, Logan Jarrett took off like a scalded cat and there was never really any doubt who the boss was on this night. A lot of the cars were lower on the track, fighting for a lot of the same real estate, with a few notable exceptions. C.J. Leary, KT, Jr and Brady Bacon went to the top early and started hammering away. It didn't take long to figure out that even though Leary started 17th, before this thing was over he was going to have to be dealt with. Dave Darland passed Robert Ballou early for 2nd and those two settled into those two positions for the better part of the race. There were a series of yellows on laps 21 and 22, which appeared to be the break Leary, who was up to 6th at this point, was looking for. But each time, Jarrett would just drive away from the pack and the order pretty much stayed the same, other than CJ getting around Chase Stockon. Then on the last caution, Ballou and Leary passed Darland, then Leary grabbed 2nd away from Robert and a hard charging KT Jr got the 4th spot away from Dave. The last 8 laps were really very exciting and were more action packed than the previous 22. Bottom line: Logan Jarrett was the man, no doubt. But CJ Leary was the show. They had a really nice crowd and I got my money's worth and got to spend some time with quite a few people I had missed seeing over the long winter. As I was standing around visiting with a large group of race friends, it dawned on me that I probably wouldn't be lucky enough to know any of them if it weren't for our friend Bill Gardner.:9: Jerry |
Sorry about no updates last night. It was pretty chilly and my fingers wanted to stay in my gloves. Was a great day and a fun race. Congrats to Jarrett and heck of a run all night by Leary.
Best part of the night was getting back to our hotel (in Kentucky) in time to see Big Blue Nation go down. Perfect ending to a great day. And we didn't get kicked out of our hotel for yelling and jumping on the bed when the game was over. Happy Easter everyone. |
Was I the only one that heard Ballou blast the racetrack over the PA for being dangerous and going to hurt someone after the race? What was that all about?

Re: Lawrenceburg
No Jim you heard right. He said something to the effect that they need to get someone that knows how to prepare the track better before they get somebody killed.,

Re: Lawrenceburg
The cautions appeared to be very costly for Dave Darland. I left wondering if Chad Boespflug thought he was actually in second place, instead of being a lap down. He was really racing hard, and I lost count of how many times DD had to repass him each time the caution came out. Many in the stands felt the debris caution, was unjustified, as many were chanting "NASCAR yellow". Had a good time though. Very strong crowd for such a cool evening.

On a good note it was good to see Logan make it to victory lane, and the race for 2nd through about 8th was intense those last 8 laps. The track needed some work, but with all the rain I'm just glad they were able to get the show in. On to the next one now. |

I'm going with a mistake by KTJ, especially after he posted a heart felt apology to his team for making a costly mistake. KTJ man'd up and that goes a long way in my book. |

The drivers literally drive right past the scale house after exiting the track. Dutcher was running up to the scales to see if anyone had caught them, and was approached by Leary's Father which informed him that they were disqualified. Dutcher returned with "what the fu**, did you guys go tell on us??!!" That started a pretty heated exchange of words, as Leary let Dutcher know he was tired of KT and his driving. Several fans stated KT hit Leary in the heat race. A very costly mistake....
|
Dave Darland posted on FB that he had a rear tire going down the last 8 laps that slowed them down. Bdon't know if it's true or an excuse, but could explain why he appeared to be slowing down.
|
When DD came into the pits after the race it was quite obvious that his RR was going flat. A driver with Daves resume doesn't need to make excuses ! He merely tells it like it is,whether it's good or bad.
|
Ahh racing season is back, I love these heated debates! Something you don't get in the off season!
|
Nevermind :6:

Nice Video of Clayton!! Really gets the sprint adrenaline floooooooowin!!!
|
Early in the evening I heard the track announcer talk about a "race monitor app." Does anyone know what he was talking about?
|
Re: Lawrenceburg
im assuming he was saying the race was on race monitor which is a smart phone app that allows you to follow racers lap times thru the day. Very cool thing to do while race is going on. Really lets u know whos fast whether upfront or in back... J
