VUMTQRL Salute to 9/11 @ Shelbyville Sat.

The Vincennes University Midwest TQs return to the Shelby County Fairgrounds this Saturday, Sept 12 with a Salute to 9-11. Shelbyville police officers and firefighters will be the guests of the VUMTQRL. Race fans will want to come early to see the display of unique vehicles. Shelbyville DARE officer Floyd Hastings will have the three DARE cars on display, including a vintage 1960's police car. A tiller wheel fire truck that was on duty in New York on 9-11 will be on display as well as the VUMTQRL show truck. It is also Jackson Oil night and employees of Jackson Oil and Solvents will be on hand. A Jackson Oil tanker truck will also be on display. Jackson Oil sponsors the Duel for Fuel, a four lap dash for the fastest four qualifiers. Tate Martz has already clinched the Duel for Fuel championship.

Once again the historic grandstand at the Shelbyville County Fairgrounds, built in 1879, will be filled with music. Prior to racing, Ginny Spillman will offer patriotic songs and the National Anthem and then during the racing program, Ms. Spillman will perform her one woman show of the music of Patsy Cline.

Gates open at 4:30, practice at 5 and racing at 7.

The Vincennes University Midwest TQs will celebrate their first season with a championship banquet at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Mark Frechette, VUMTQRL President promised the banquet will offer many firsts for TQ racing. The President of Vincennes University, Dr. Richard Helton, will attend the banquet and will assist in trophy presentations. The banquet is open to registered drivers and owners and invited guests. Tickets are available at $25.00 each.

For more information visit the website, www.mtqrl.com.

Re: VUMTQRL Salute to 9/11 @ Shelbyville Sat.

This will be the last race, for this season, at Shelbyville. I would like to thank the people who have been preparing the track, and the Fair Board for allowing us to run again on such a smooth, racey track, this season has been really good, with the League at Shebyville, some really good clean racing has been going on, as well as some special events, which this time, will again be entertaining, so before it gets to cold, and the season is over, get yourself outa that easy chair, and come listen to the music, both of the race cars, and the entertainment from the Historic Grandstand. A fun filled evening for all. Bob

You are right, Bob. It will certainly be a long winter, and I would love to see a bunch of cars show up to show our thanks to the folks at Shelbyville for all they have done to make our nights there very entertaining to say the least. They have gone above and beyond to help us put on a good show each time we have been there. Not to mention the special show that Gary Lee and the Frechettes have put together for that night. Hope to see lots of you there.

We're going to have to do something about the long winter, maybe a race in the South or indoors. We're open for suggestions. I guess I can't complain too much about the long winters. We are fortunate enough to have a lot of great racing all summer long here in Indiana. Not many other states have this luxury.

Indoors at Duquoin would be fun. A two day show would be great.

Does anyone know how big the Southern Illinois Center at DuQuoin is and whether it has room for pits?

Nick, hopefully we'll see you guys in FL over the winter. The racing your Mom talked about sounded like fun. Gary said he would drive the motorhome for us. :)

Looks like mother nature might just smile on us again, this weekend. We also may have a couple of new cars, out for the first time this year, and hopefully a couple or three that were in repair, will be returning. Should be a great weekend at Shelbyville, and I must brag on them, it has been probably the smoothest track we've ran on this season. Keep up the great work guys, and we'll see ya Sat. Bob

Illinois would be pretty cool. Anything indoor would be a good relief during the cold months.

Bob is right, Shelbyville has been extremely smooth this year. Hopefully we can get that cushion worked in again this weekend !

Having a cushion to run at Shelbyville earlier in the year was awesome and fun to drive on. This can be an exciting and racey track when there is two grooves. Looks like the weather might help keep some moisture in the track :6:

Any racing in the winter time instead of being in Indiana sounds like fun :2: Hopefully there will be some non-wing sprintcar races in FL this winter, maybe the TQ's down there will also be running...

Florida surprisingly has a lot of racing. A lot more than I realized. A business associate told me about a dirt track not too far from where I'll be staying for the winter. I'm going to have to check it out.

The TQs in Florida end in Oct and begin again in March. They race on pavement.

By the way, I know I forget it a lot, but when you sign in Sat, at Shelbyville, don't forget to ask about t-shirts, MTQRL license plates, and decals, they are most always available as you sign in, I usually forget also, but maybe we need a ck list, sign in, draw for qualifying position, look and ask about banquet tickets, and t-shirts, decals, and front license plates, they are available in black and in white, danged sharp I think! See ya Sat. Bob

That was worth getting up early, wasn't it? Gary sounds like he's done this before. :)

We had lunch over in Shelbyville today. Track should be in great shape. Weather is beautiful. Less than 24 hours.

I was able to listen to a live feed on my computer. When I'm at my desk, WSVX is one of the internet stations I listen to. Throughout the day they are playing promos for our race. Gary did those too. Check it out if you get a chance.

---------- Post added at 10:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:32 PM ----------

If you get to Shelbyville early, there is a neat place called the Grover Museum located at 52 w. Broadway, next to the fire station. The hours are Tues. - Sat. 9-4, Sun. 1-4, closed Mon and holidays. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. The streets of old Shelbyville took some 13 years to complete. It is the showcase of the Shelby County Historical Society.

There are 20 or 21 store fronts in the display including the one room school house that they actually use for area third graders. It is an interesting place, too, if you like trains.

No.....he wouldn't be done till about 4 at Mini Indy and that would be really pushing it. This will be my 6th race this year, he has ran about 20, so in my view, its ok. He may think otherwise! lol

I won't tell him that hot laps start at 5. Do you think he would be ok to drive laps around at Shelbyville? He could do some exhibition laps between races if he wants.

Throw it in with his safety gear. Talk with Gary when you get there so he can tell the crowd a little about him and his racing.

I had "orange Kool-Aid" for breakfast this morning. LOL

Great job Matt & Jay! And, to all the MTQRL drivers (and out of state guest); THANKS For Yet Another Great Night of racing At Shelbyville! :6:

Gary Lee, You pulled another "First" for racing. I was not much a fan of country music until last night. Great Job!:9:
:16Do you think you could get The Rolling Stones to play sometime next year?
Jen and Mark, I am so glad that when you found Gary, cold and wet along side the road, that you hosed him down and gave him a job. :5:

To all the MTQRL officials; You make my job easy. You were all "on Point" all night long. Thank You!
Motzi, if you could learn to "Moon Walk", you would be worth your weight in gold!

Too the fans; Thanks for coming out and enjoying the evening with us. :32:

See you all next week,

It's cool to see a race where you can't predict who will win. Lots of passing and they were fast. I'm amazed at how they can go sliding 3-wide in the turns and not touch. These guys are awesome drivers.

How about the future TQ driver Austin Nigh? The crowd loved him. I think I'm going to Vegas to bet that he'll be a household racing name in the future.

You created a monster! He now thinks he should get to do that every time I race the TQ! By the way, he was turning 28 second laps out there. Not bad for a quarter midget.

He deserves it. He's really good. It amazes me at how well he can drive at his age. I guess it shouldn't surprise me because he gets racing DNA from both sides.

Congrats to Jay Parks, and Matt Lux on your feature win last night, seems like all the races were heavily contested, lots of real close racing, front to back, also thanks to our friends to the West for "dropping by", we always enjoy having you, hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Only 3 races left this season, lets hope things continue to go as they have been, it has been a real fun season, and maybe by Greensburg, Kyle and I can have the T7 race ready for Don. Lets go racin! Jay, I think the action in the pits, was almost as exciting, as the one on the track, I think you ran a alot more laps than Matt did. Bob

Congratulations Jay and family and Matt on your feature win! It's well-deserved!! Thank you to Gary for setting up our Patsy Cline concert. Ginny was wonderful and I enjoyed listening to her perform! Watching Gary dance, for those of you who missed it, was great too! :) Thank you to Mark W. for arranging for his friend Nick to bring the tiller firetruck out in remembrance of 9-11. It was surreal to be able to touch such a part of history since the firetruck was actually used on 9-11. What an honor to have Nick share it with us!
