I know, I know, dead horse and all but 22 cars for $5000 to win makes one once again wonder why Helfrich or any other promoter would go beyond the $2000 to win range. It was a good show with several quality cars but $5000 to win should draw a field worthy of the payout, especially considering the back gate take is not strong.
On another note, folks wring their hands over what might happen to THAT in the future and a race is scheduled with no competition and 15 cars show up. One of the few shows at Terre Haute I’ve missed (unavoidably) so I can’t speak to the spectator numbers but you would think the support for a show at the famed half mile would draw in the 20s at least. You can argue the expense of running a half mile is the reason but in the rundown I notice of the 15 many are low buck race teams. Difficult to square the nostalgia and yearly worries about what the fair board may do to the amount of support actually given to the venue, especially considering in Bob Sargent the track one of the most stable promoters out there. Semi-rant over.
