East Coast modified or is it a sprint car?

I recently saw a pic of two sprint cars in USAC action on the West Coast. What's with all the body panels? :thumbsdown:

What they really look like is the 60s CAE supermodifieds. I can't imagine why anyone wants to make a sprinter look ugly, but they do.
