Dean,

I take no offense at all - you are right on the money. I do not, and never will have, a classic P A voice. I am reminded anew why I often stay off this board for extended periods of time. Thank you for sticking up for Kimb. In this business you will always have supporters and detractors - that won't change. The most important issue in the final analysis is someone's character - So in this case Kimb (or me or Rob, Brad Dickison or anyone) may or may not be your cup of tea as an announcer - but her character is above reproach and in the end that is what matters most of all.

As for Kimb's voice, I know a number of esteemed announcers in this area that don't exactly have the prototypical booming "announcer's voice", yet are still very proficient at their jobs. Rob Klepper freely admits that the tone and pitch of his voice could be better (i.e., lower), but his excitement, enthusiasm, and the effort he puts forth makes him a good announcer. How about the universally lauded Pat Sullivan? He has a high-pitched nasally wine in his delivery (no offense, Pat), but he more than makes up for it with his intellect, his knowledge of the sport, and his application of such in his presentation. He's an icon in the sport, despite his "non-traditional" sound. I don't know that the sound of the voice is as important as the information, and observations provided.

It's like in music. Bob Dylan has THE worst voice (and delivery) in the history of the world. Yet, he's influenced EVERYONE. How about Bruce Springstreen, Louis Armstrong, Mick Jagger, Geddy Lee? I could go on and on...They all have their limitations audibly speaking, but all offer something special and great to the masses. Same goes for announcers. Just because the delivery isn't traditional, doesn't mean the presentation "sucks", as some would have you believe.

DM
Geddy Lee? What about that guy from AC/DC Just teasing Dean rock on my friend. :respect:

Well said, Pat. I couldn't agree more. Thank you.

So, are we through here? Or will there be more of this non-productive, classless, destructive rhetoric to wade through?

Well...not quite. Is there anybody that can answer my original question? What is Kimb doing in '08?

Is there a reason why this has been moved? Heaven forbid somebody disagree....

Personally, I like the debate on announcers. If Kimb were thin-skinned, she wouldn't be doing something that is so open to criticism, one would hope!
