(Springfield, IL) For the second time, the Bettenhausen 100 presented by BRANDT, has been canceled due to weather. The USAC Silver Crown Series and the DIRTcar Modifieds were scheduled to race Sunday afternoon, September 22.

After consulting with USAC, a number of team owners and drivers, weather forecasters, and with the rain the Springfield area received on Saturday, many felt it would be best to cancel a day in advance. Sunday’s forecast is unfavorable with a number of models showing a near 100% chance of rain.

The cancellation marks the second time the event has been scratched due to weather. It was originally scheduled to be part of the Illinois State Fair on Saturday, August 17.

We had huge plans surrounding this race involving a half dozen folks besides ourselves and are quite disappointed, but that's how it goes sometimes.
Mega kudo's to Sarge and USAC for getting out ahead of situation by almost 24 hours that was certainly going to be a rain-out thus preventing a lot of needless travel, time and expense.
At least the call was made the day before as opposed to 2 weeks!
Silver Crown Championship Dirt Cars properly driven on a one mile dirt track are classic poetry in motion. Using that analogy, Jack Hewitt is one of the greatest poets of all time.
The rain moved into Chatham by 1:30 or 2:00. About 10 miles from track. If they would have gotten it in crowd would have probably been awful. Looked like it was gonna rain at any minute all day and forecast was 80 ot 90%
