All Eyes are on the Tony Elliott Classic

With Championship Night at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on the horizon, one task still remains for the championship leaders. A date with the historic Anderson Speedway for one final time in 2024. This Saturday, October 5th Anderson Speedway will host the 9th Annual Ascension St. Vincent Tony Elliott Classic presented by CB Fabricating. The event will be the third points earning event at Anderson for the 500 Sprint Car Tour during the 2024 season.

With only two races left in the 2024 season, the race for the points championship is heating up. Inaugural series champion, Kody Swanson, currently leads the field once again as he chases his second 500 Sprint Car Tour Championship. Both chasing their first championship with the series, Bobby Santos III and Billy Wease trail Swanson by only 26 and 29 points respectively. Kyle O’Gara and Jackson Macenko are not out of the equation quite yet as they sit fourth and fifth in the standings with 1058 (-88) points and 1054 (-92) points.

The most dangerous thing for a championship contender is a driver with nothing to lose. Former winners at Anderson such as Dakoda Armstrong and Tyler Roahrig are currently on the outside looking in in regard to the championship. Both drivers are chasing wins, and wins only, going into the final two races of the season. Taylor Ferns, the most recent winner for the 500 Sprint Car Tour, is also on the outside looking in. Ferns has raced well at Anderson in the past and will be chasing her first win at the historic track with a newfound sense of confidence following her win at Salem Speedway on September 7th.

Some notable entries for this weekend’s event include Trey Osbourne, David Goodwill, Davey Hamilton Jr., Colton Bettis, Tim Creech, and Nathan Byrd. Osbourne and Bettis will both be making their 500 Sprint Car Tour debut at a track that they have had success at in the USSA Kenyon Midget Series. Goodwill is also making his first 500 Sprint Car Tour start as he makes the trip from Napa, California to compete at Anderson Speedway for the first time. Hamilton Jr. has shown great speed in his few starts with the series this season, including a podium finish at Salem Speedway and leading laps at this year’s Little 500. Hamilton Jr. will be looking for his first 500 Sprint Car Tour win at a track he has performed well at. Creech and Byrd find themselves in a tight Rookie of the Year Battle. Creech currently leads by 50 points going into the final two races of the year.

The 9th Annual Ascension St. Vincent Tony Elliott Classic presented by CB Fabricating is this Saturday, October 5th. Dakoda Armstrong won the event in October of 2023 and will return to the field to defend his victory. Tickets for the event are available online by clicking HERE. Tickets are $18 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12, and free for kids 5 and under. Gates will open at 2:30 PM, qualifications are set for 4:30 PM, and racing will begin at 6:00 PM.

The 2024 500 Sprint Car Tour season will see nine point earning events across a ten race schedule from early April to mid October. The 76th Annual Little 500 will once again be a non-points earning event for the series, filling out the ten race schedule in its traditional Memorial Day Weekend slot. All races, including the 76th Annual Little 500, will be streamed LIVE on DIRTVision.
