Q, Non Wing Sprint Car Racing was just as exciting at 500hp as it is at 900hp.

No.
Two reasons: 1. You can't unsee what you've seen. 2. Technology. When all Sprint Cars only had 500hp they were also on stone age shocks and tires. Now when you put 500hp in them they roll around like they're on pavement. |

I say yes, It was as good as if not better than to days racing and the cars weren't so locked down. A perfect lap was almost not achievable with thinner tires and new style shocks. Now they can rip em off consecutively.
I believe it was 1988 when I seen the first guy flat foot the old burg non winged. That was Andy Hilelnberg of IND in Hoffmans sprinter. Two weeks later Staab did it. Yeah there were some big motors back then but most was done in their own shop. Still tops was about 700hp. Somewhere in the early 90s was a group of throwback sprints. someone brought a grant king and he was pulling the wheels and the left front was three feet in the air thru the turns. was hella fun to watch.
