Since I had no idea about any speedway other than current ones in Indy, I did a search and found this.
http://www.stevehardin.com/htm/16thst.htm I think the speedway looks cool, I would love to see races inside a track like that. What is the address on this place? I am trying to find it online maps.

For us that were not around 9 years ago, why was it closed? Too much to operate? Too loud/community complaints? Not enough fans? Not enough cars?
I remember seeing the pictures when it was opened, and thought that it would be a great place to watch a race. I have also seen some of the pictures of it on the web, and thought it would have been a great track. Wasn't Tony George the money behind the operation? |

Wow, what a neat looking place. If only someone could convince the city to lease it to them and put a couple million into the place it would be top notch from the aerial pictures.

21 of the drivers who took time that day no longer race anything(To my knowledge) and about 3-5 drive just a handful of times a year.
How things change. |

16th Street was fun, but it was hard on cars.
The Summer Sizzle was a total bust, and you would think a lesson would have been learned. It has not, as Moto GP used the same, "better hurry, tickets are selling out" mantra. I think if it had been paved it would have lasted longer. |

Always a fun night at the racetrack when 16th Street Speedway was alive and kicking. One of the things that made it fun that we don't get to do now is everyone went to the pits after the race - told stories - and saw the drivers and equipment up close. For it's short life as a track - there were many interesting racing things that happened there and a ton of great racers who ran and won there.
