I can also add that a demo derby on a paved track is a letdown. once they throw the green all you see is tire smoke. I does get a bit interesting after a few radiators get broken though, and no traction

Probably 80-90% of the derbies in Indiana are like that. You just don't see it from the stands. I can walk around the pits at any derby and usually tell you who is gonna be in the top 5 just by looking at the cars. Every now and then I am wrong but not to far off.

Now add the engine, sliding drive shaft, specialty built trannies and rearends, gears, engine protectors, distributor protectors, ect. guys have $3000-6000 tied up in just those components. By time you add in the time it takes to build the car and the additional expenses you are looking at alot of time and money tied up. I have been doing derbies for 9 years, and it has all but priced me out of it, atleast for fullsize cars. I just don't have the engine and equipment to run the bigger shows. I know guys who are running $5,000 to $10,000 engines. I still try to run one show a year, but after my current car is used up, not sure what i am going to do. Been thinking about just selling all my stuff off and putting a push bar on my truck and go push sprint cars when I home. I would rather be at the track on a saturday night then running a derby most nights now.
In old days it was knock glass out number it drink beer then knock the hell out of each other

I brought 2 AutoCross cars over to Flora last month. Staff was great to deal with. We will try to go back sometime next year. Just wish I lived about 2 hours closer! VSneader2 I got to get you to run an AutoCross race. You think derbies are fun, these r a blast
