LARSON WIRE-TO-WIRE IN MONDAY OSKALOOSA FEATURE
Oskaloosa, Iowa…….Kyle Larson of Elk Grove, California picked up right where he left off last August at Southern Iowa Speedway, as he won Monday’s 20-lap Feature to lead into tomorrow’s “Ultimate Challenge,” which he won last year. The $3,000 win came as a companion race to the traditional “Front Row Challenge” winged sprint car race, and was a non-points special event for the AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series. As a result of his amazing drive in Heat 2, passing two cars on the final lap to garner second, Larson earned the pole and was never seriously challenged. After a couple mid-race cautions, the final nine laps went green and saw Larson stretch out a 4.662-second victory in the Mean Green – Oxydol #69 Chalk/Stanton Mopar for Hoffman Auto Racing. His only obstacle was trying to finish as the left-rear torsion arm fell off, leaving him with a handful over the final couple circuits. With no brakes and a small fire from the damage, Larson rolled into victory lane. After starting second, Dave Darland fended off many attacks for the second spot before settling in and scoring the runner-up spot in the Jeff’s Jam-It-In Storage – Parker Store of Phoenix #11 Maxim/Claxton. Both Larson and Darland will be locked into tomorrow’s dash to determine the top eight starters in the 30-lap “Ultimate Challenge” for $15,000. Robert Ballou started third but used a late slidejob to grab the final podium spot in the MPHG Promotions – J.C. Plew #81 Maxim/Ott. Brady Bacon came home fourth in the Infinity Shocks – Fatheadz Eyewear #99 Triple X/Wesmar. Rounding out the top-five was Levi Jones in the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing – Chevy Performance #20 Maxim/Kistler. Racing resumes tomorrow with a full program that is tabbed with “Special Event” status, awarding show-up points toward the National Sprint Car championship while using a similar passing-points style format to line up the field for the Main Event.
