No Bill I wasn't but I would have been happy to be there instead of the predicament im in. It's not all about how many cars are there to me. Sure it makes a bit of a difference on how you feel about it. But I wouldn't have felt jipped. Call me strange but I hit many a 8-9 car shows at a few tracks back when wings about killed Sprints in the early 90s

I could have looked at the schedule of places running today and told you there wouldn't be 20 cars tonight.

USAC at Eldora, BOSS at Fremont, LPS, Waynesfield, some sprint guys were prepared to jump in midgets at Montpelier...

There are only so many sprints to go around, that's if they didn't crash or blow an engine last night...

Either way, I'd have loved to be down at the Burg tonight than sittin at home watching it rain. I don't know why people get so upset. 15 isn't exactly horrible.

I went 3 hours each way to Eldora last night and saw 8 heats, 2 b's 1 dash and 2 features and felt like I got more than my $'s worth. If I had driven 2 hours each way to the Burg just to see 15 cars I would have been disappointed.

IMO, car count is important as it is indicative of the health of the sport. It wasn't that long ago that USAC, LPS, Paragon and the Burg could run on a Saturday night and 105-110 cars would be spread out among the 4. If you don't believe me, go back 5-6 yrs. in the IOW threads and look at car counts for Saturday night posts.

Something else to consider is the impact to the promotors bottom line. If a promotor has built his budget on 20 cars per night, at $35/ pitpass and 3 pitpasses/car, only 15 cars showing up means he is facing a $525 shortfall to his budget. That means that he has to figure out how to get 35 more customers in the seats to make up for that shortfall. Not the easiest thing to do in today's economy!

And while I agree that most hard core fans will take quality over quantity in a field of cars, I don't believe that is true for the casual fan. Many look at it from a standpoint of more cars = more excitement which TO THEM means more value for their hard earned $. I am convinced that continued short fields WILL eventually result in smaller crowds in the stands.

I am not saying the sky is falling, as I recognize that there were some unique circumstances in play tonight with weather, etc. I am saying that TOTAL car count is important and needs to be watched carefully.

The country's economy is in the dumper, so fewer car owners have the "disposable income" available for running a race car operation ..............

What concerns me more is the highest paying Sprint car org only had three heats and no consi

Grant won Eldora, Leary second. Two burg hotshoes. Simon was also up there with a good run.

But still. If you could run even the slightest bit good. You could have went and started for 500 and fifth place don't pay that at most tracks.
