Third generation Trammell Triumphs Lincoln Park....
Bloomington's Cody Trammell, a 3rd generation racer of the Trammell family, dominated the MMSA event at Lincoln Park Speedway this past Saturday evening. Carrying the Trammell name into victory lane Saturday night had to be a great feeling for a lot of racing fans in the great state of Indiana. Like so many times Cody's grandfather, Charles, and Cody's father, Terry, have visited victory lane so often they paved the path to victory lane once again for the Trammell legacy....and lets not forget his uncle, Gary, may have played a roll in this young lads success! Heat race wins from Saturday went to Trammell and Justin Lewis. Heat one saw Cody from P1 take off and lead every lap with Anton Hernadez running second followed by Jessie Vermillion rounded out top three. Heat 2 saw Lewis come from P3 to take the win over Jeff Schindler and Keith Arvin. The feature would roll out with the inversion putting Indianapolis native Keith Arvin on the pole position and Greencastle's Jessie Vermillion to his side, row two consisted of OVLS Jeff Schindler and Trammell, row 3 had Anton Hernandez, by earning most passing points put Justin Lewis starting sixth. Arvin would pace the field out front for 5 circuits before Trammell would put his Young Blood Graphics, OSR Bike and Motor, Celtic Traveler Magazine, and Roman Excavating and Trucking into top stop on lap 5, passing Schindler, Vermillion and Arvin. Lap 12 would end first timer Rob Lankford's night as he went pit side with a burning race car. The red would fly for the fire, and as cars set on the track awaiting to refire the 88x Schindler car experienced a hot seat also as a fuel line had come loose starting a small blaze. Once racing resumed Trammell would make it clear no one was going defy him of his first victory this season. Anton Hernadez would try his best to over take the top spot, but was forced to go pitside with engines issues. Next pressure came from Lewis but could not get enough steam to over haul Trammell. Trammell would take the checkers by leading the final laps with Lewis, Jessie Vermillion, Keith Arvin, Cindy Chambers rounding out the top 5. With Cindy's top five run puts her in the mix of the 2018 MMSA point run early in the season, with 3 top tens in 3 races. Rest of the top 10 were Colin Miller 6th, Rookie Brandon Coffey 7th, and the 2016 MMSA Rookie of the year Chayse Hayhurst and current OVLS point leader finishing 8th (but finishing position was not an indication of his run) after he ran in top 5 and was going for 3rd before loosing it in turn two as he went for the pass, Dean Parker would take 9th and Cory Clay would fill the top 10. Night three saw 19 entries would take the green on a very well prepared track Saturday night al Lincoln Park Speedway. This race would see the third different winner in so many races. MMSA points have a tie on top, Cody Trammell, Justin Lewis are tied for first with Anton Hernandez, Cory Clay, and Jessie Vermillion in hot pursuit for the quest of 2018 MMSA Championship. MMSA picks back up this Saturday May 12th with its second trip to Twin Cities Raceway this season. This will be a winged USAC event paying $400 to win and $75 to start for the special event. Thanks for supporting MMSA, will see you at the track! |
