I was thinking these 500 lap races was Earls "one better than" the Little 500 at Anderson. Early always had to do "one better" than the other promoters.
And, the races didn't really get much publicity as I remember. Another Earl thing. Eldora even back then operated on "word of mouth". Early really didn't spend a lot of money on advertising outside of the area. Race fans and drivers "just knew" when something big was happening at Eldora. |

I thought NSSN had complete results from 1967 as well, but it's just an article with the top 10 finishers and lap leaders. Here are the notes:
Finish: 1) Don Nordhorn, 2) Ross Smith, 3) Allen Barr, 4) Jon Peddie, 5) Ken Ferrand, 6) Bud Holmes, 7) Grant Wilmot, 8) Bobby Greer, 9) Bob Pratt, 10) Larry Cannon. Polesitter: Don Hewitt - Nordhorn led final 385 laps - Margin of victory was 16 laps - Polesitter Hewitt dropped out on lap 13 - only ONE caution flag when Lou Blaney spun on lap 153. - winning car owner was Dizz Wilson - Other race leaders: Bob Kinser (led first 7 laps), Larry Cannon, Dick Gaines, Lou Blaney, and Nordhorn. |
