that's a name i had forgotten!!! my uncle lives up in Boston and back in the early 60's we went to a track called "Pines" or, "The Pines Speedway" and Ollie was running there that night.

I watched Mel drive Junior Knepper's USAC sprint car at IRP. IIRC, he finished in the bottom part of the top 10. I don't have any photos of that, but I'd bet my next SS check that John Mahoney does.
I know he ran a USAC sprinter at Ascot back in the 60s.
I do have a photo of Mel driving Blackie Fortune's dirt champ car on the Indy mile.

Thanks POCFAN! I knew he had done a couple/few one-offs but I don't recall him drivng sprinters or dirt cars on a regular basis. Do you?

As usual, you are right!
I've talked with Mel about racing a whole bunch over the years (since the mid-'60s) but I don't recall us ever talking much about sprint cars or dirt champ cars.
