MMSA invaded the pits of Lincoln Park Speedway Saturday night! With Mother Nature hot on our tail, many of ya were not sure that we were going to get the race in, but we held our heads high and waited her out.
Sure the possible threat of rain kept some drivers away, but we still had a strong field of 17 signed in! MMSA was last to roll out for hot laps. Mmsa sent out two sets of hot laps and they went miraculously. Our heats were set to go out to go second. We turned around and had to go back out for heats right away. With only a hand full of cautions coming out, the heats finished with only one car not being able to start the feature, whom was Andy Bradley. Heat winners were some up coming stars of the sport. Cindy Chambers is showing these boys she is one to recognize. Taking the first heat in style out front and coming up with the second most passing points on the night. Brandon Coffey would take heat 2 and lock him into a great starting position fir the feature event. But one of the biggest surprises Keith Langley would claim the highest passing points on the night with a 9th to 2nd in heat 2, thus setting the feature line up! Speaking of the feature, we were on Lincoln Parks good side that night, which led us to run MMSA’s feature first! Before we talk about the feature though, let’s talk about our many incentives for our drivers to compete against each other within the race itself. To start off, we had the $100 dollar incentive, and this went to any driver starting in the 7th-10th position, and they make their way up to the front of the pack and they are the first to see the checkered flag! And with that, of these four positions, the one driver that finished closest to the leader in the feature would get an extra $100. Another incentive was the chip draw. This is where we drew not one but two different pill draws and we make a little deal. One of those were Brandon Smith, and his deal was: if you win in the feature, we will DOUBLE your pay, if you get in top five, you get an extra $100 added to your paycheck, and if you finish in the top ten, you get an extra $50 added. Brandon went almost all out and said that wanted the deal with top five for an extra $50. Cindy Chambers chip was also drawn, and her deals were the same and she chose the sure way and said top ten for and extra $50. And to top it all off, these two dueled it off to see who could beat each other in the feature and the winner of them would automatically get an extra $25. Enough being said about the extra money given out to our drivers, let’s get to the exciting part. Feature rolled out onto the track before the sun went down. SAY WHAT! That’s right! The sun was still up when MMSA took the green flag. With Justin Lewis leading the first lap, that just sent Cody Trammell into hardcore race mode to catch him. Cody later past Justin Lewis going into turn three and Cody never looked back, leading the rest of the race, even through a few cautions. At one point, Lewis was on Trammell’s backside running hard for the top spot. LewIs would get into the back of Trammell sending him around. Track deemed Lewis at fault was sent to the tail of the field. Now this puts Jesse Vermillion in second and was hot, and I mean HOT on Trammell’s back. Vermillion almost took over Trammell but could not prevail. Cody Trammell ended up taking the checkered flag! With the incentives: The 7th-10th position won by Jesse Vermillion got the extra $50 for his finish. Brandon Smith couldn’t out run the pack and finished seventh, and Cindy Chambers finished sixth(just one spot ahead of Smith) and she took home an extra $25 for finishing ahead of Smith AND an extra $50 for finishing in the top ten! Though it may not have been a good night for some, for many, it was one heck of a race night! Top ten, Trammell, Vermillion, Coffey, Langley, Watson, Chambers, Smith, Rutherford, Lewis, Deputy! See ya all at Twin City Saturday July 28th! |

Bradley strikes at Twin Cities....
Bloomington's Andy Bradley piloted a different type of winged beast to victory this weekend. He set aside the aircraft and decided to fly the Hoosier Speed winged mini sprint Saturday night to victory at Twin Cities Raceway in North Vernon, Indiana. Some 19 winged warriors checked in to the speedway Saturday from 3 different states, Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio. The state of Ohio would set the bar high showing the Indiana and Illinois boys they will be the ones to beat by taking 2 of the 3 heat race wins. The loan victory in heat race action, for team Indiana. was heat one where Andy Bradley would take the top spot immediately on the start and easily taking heat one win in front of Justin Lewis, Cody Trammell and Colin Miller. Heat two saw a normal face up front, Mason Ohio's Brad Strunk paced the field to the green and set sail to pace the field to the checkers in his Parsons Construction, NRL Mortgage, Priority National Title, ride for his preliminary event ahead of Jesse Vermillion, Austin Powell, and Keith Arvin. Heat three, we will say another Buckeye took charge! This time first ever young MMSA participate Jac Nickles from Harrod, Ohio took his C & M Maintenance, T & D Interiors, Powell Company backed hot rod to nearly a straightaway lead to his first victory with MMSA. Nickles had a racing line on the track like no other and would seem to be the one to beat on the night. Following Nickles to the line was Ryan Barr, Brandon Coffey, and the only Illinois representative Brandon Smith. Bradley would be credited for most passing points on the evening followed by Nickles, Strunk, Lewis, Barr and Coffey. Thus giving us the front three rows for the A-Main event! 3 Hoosiers, 3 Buckeyes in top 6! The feature rolls out onto the speedway with couple entries light. Justin Lewis, setting 2nd in the race for the championship would hear some unkind noises coming from his 77 machine and opted to not do more damage, thus giving up his 3rd starting position. Keith Langley would break a chain in heat race action and not make the call. Another big hit was Jac Nickles was to start 5th with his great finishing result in his heat racing action. Nickles would have issues in the lineup shoot as the balance of the field rolled off around him. The team would get it fired just in the nick of time, but would have to start shotgun on the field. The 17 car field took the green with Ryan Barr getting the jump on Brandon Coffey and would lead the early laps. Caution one would fly, bringing the field together and putting Strunk on the tail tank of the Barr machine. Strunk would make quick work Barr to lead several circuits of his own. If keeping track at home this puts a Buckeye in first, a Buckeye in second and a looming Hoosier is now third. Now the half way point in the race comes near, the Hoosiers decided it was time to move the football over the line. Bradley would try the old slide job in one, but Strunk says wait just a minute, as he took the top spot back going down the back straight. Thus making team Hoosier to pull out another idea out of the bag! They decided to go beyond the so called normal berm on the track. They decided they needed, more racing room so Bradley took his bright yellow hot rod above the berm and inches from the wall in both ends of the speedway. Bradley would pass Strunk with 5 to go on the high side. Strunk would venture up there in no mans land but would not be to his liking and he would settle in to second place for the evening. Bradley would go on to win, and send dust a flying with 3 wild donuts in victory lane. Top ten, Bradley IU, Strunk OH, Trammell IU, Powell OH, Bradley IU, Barr OH, Vermillion IU, Nickles OH, Chambers and Arvin. Guess I would have to say IU won the game....and thus my friends sets up a nice racers incentive come Friday night a Bloomington Speedway! TO BE CONTUNIED...…….. Congrats to all for a nice showing Saturday, top car count, like many nights in 2018, actions speak louder than words! |
