+Last race I attended in '69 turned out to be one of if not THE best of the season.
+I loved these Sunday afternoon USAC events. We would do the weekly sprint shows at Lawrenceburg on Sat. nights, then be off to Terre Haute, New Bremen, Eldora, Daytom, Salem......wherever, the next morning. Feature - 30 Laps 16 Johnny Parsons, Jr...............5 17 Karl Busson.......................19 71 Bill Puterbaugh..................20 40 Rollie Beale.......................10 47 Charlie Masters..................12 _5 Lee Kunzman......................2 36 Cy Fairchild.......................18 83 Sammy Sessions.................3 _8 Don Nordhorn.....................4 76 Merle Bettenhausen.............7 _0 Todd Gibson......................11 99 Larry Dickson....................16 78 Al Smith...........................14 12 Gary Bettenhausen....The Winner 84 Tom Bigelow......................6 _4 Carl Williams......................8 42 Larry Cannon.....................9 11 Jim Hines.........................15 81 Nolan Johncock.................17 56 Chuck Booth.....................13 +Sometimes the Action Track looked a bit like a plowed cornfield on those Sunday afternoons and there was only about a 50/50 chance of seeing some good racing. Even though the 3 heats and the consy were all won from the pole, that was certainly not the case on this day as you can see from the "hard charger" finishes above. Gary B. was spectacular. +In looking at the program it was upsetting to note that many of the drivers who had signed the cover for my wife, are no longer with us. Larry "Boom Boom" Cannon, Gil Hess, Doc Dawson, Carl Williams, Sammy Sessions, and Dee Jones ......may they R.I.P. +That's all I've got.......

Thanks again Marv for a trip down memory lane that this open wheel fan hadn't yet arrived in the Hoosier state to have the opportunity to watch. I saved your last line and know for sure that this wasn't "all I've got". Pretty sure there are many more classics etched in your mind and I for one await the next post. Keep 'em coming please. Ole Man Winter seems to be winning right now.

Thank you Marv for a great post - that definitely brought back childhood memories. My dad took us to every race at THAT. I had certainly forgotten that Salt Walther ever ran sprint cars at The Action Track.
