Yep it is winter. Is this what is missing at Indy. Thanks Gene

You are the man Gene. One problem is my old garage # was 69 & 68. I see Foyt snuck in there before my time. These were times when you went to bed and dreamed of what kind of car you wanted to build with you own ideas. Priceless.

What the heck are those things sticking out of the middle of those race car with some sort of helmet on them, could that be one of them driver things?? Guess it's like your first love, they were pretty back then and Beautiful Now, you just don't get over your first love.

What was the name of the guy up in Indy that used to letter all the Indy cars back then? He used to letter our 1/4 midgets for us and as a kid I couldn't wait to go to his place hoping that he would have one of them big beautiful roadsters over there working on it. He was super super good and a perfectionist with everything he did. That was real Gold Leaf back then.

Thanks for this post. I thoroughly enjoy seeing the roadsters. I regret that I never got to see them run in person, or got to experience the sound of that Novi V8. I'm especially curious about the Simoniz Special that Jim Rathmann drove in 1962. I don't believe I've ever seen that car before. Thanks again.

Hey Lynn. Thank you for the links. I never get tired of photos of the Sumar streamliner.

Give a shout out to Gene Romero. I never seen him race live but would catch him on Wide World of Sports several times. He was one hell of a racer on two wheels.

The answer is yes, this is everything that is missing at Indy. Every car is different. Every engine is different. Open trailors. Open face helmets. Brave drivers, testing the limits. Thanks for the post

Yes, Gene Romero was one of the all-time best. Got to watch him, Dave Aldana, Chuck Palmgren, Alex Jorgensen, Rick Hocking, Gary and Hank Scott and many others every Tuesday night at the Granite City 1/4 mile back in the '70s. We went to many Nationals back then at places like Louisville, Indy Mile, Peoria, Santa Fe, Astrodome, Toledo, etc. Those were great times.

That's him. If he painted a can he would go so far to take a little bitty brush and write in all the directions and contents in small print, and that Gold Leaf would jump out and smack you. Sure beat computer generated plastic sticky tape. Come to think of it had you said computer back then all you would get would be a "what>hu???".
